Hello! My name is Starsha. I'm 33, a wife, a mother, and a graduate student in counseling psychology.

I believe that fat people are more than just the fat they carry. They are more than the stereotyped image of the fat person who is lazy and eats all day. They have lives and families. Yet they seem to be open targets for public shame and humiliation. It seems that so many people are all too willing to poke fun at someone who is fat because of some preconceived notion that all fat people choose to be that way. Just because fat is so obvious. It cannot be hidden. It can't be tucked away within ourselves or stuffed in a box and stored under the bed. It can never be a secret.

I'm pro-fat acceptance because I am pro-human rights. Fat people have a right to feel comfortable in their own skin. They have a right to leave their houses without shame or fear of being mocked. Other people do not have to like it, but they certainly do not have a right to make someone feel less than human because of it.

Excellent cob house with turf roof. I have no idea where it came from, but I simply must have it.
Who wouldn’t want to live in that thing? It’s like a giant twin mushroom with wrought iron and GRASS FOR A ROOF. I mean, perfection has been attained. It’s Seuss AND Tolkien all in one and I’m fairly certain that if you painted stripes into the lime wash you’d squeak in a Burton.

I would live in this house until I croaked!

  • Peer: Do you believe the diagnosis? Those labels don't really go away once you have them, especially mental disorders.
  • Psychology Student: Have you ever considered the personal effect of the diagnoses on the patient?
  • Peer: Yeah that's what I meant, how damaging labels can be to a person...it can cause many other problems. its super tricky too and difficult to accurately diagnose, and I feel that many clinicians diagnose too readily!
  • Psychology Student: Maybe obsessing over personality traits are what's doing most of the damage, and if a person really thinks they have a problem then they should work on fixing it. Obsession leads to exacerbation.

The researchers found that those who took part in physical activity at least once a week and did not smoke had a lower risk of death whatever their weight.

“BMI is quite a poor marker of what’s going on,” Dr Hamer added.

An article which may bring this knowledge to a wider audience, but decides to spoil itself by literally ignoring it’s own findings….. SO IRRITATING!!

I hate it when an article says obese people are more likely to survive a heart attack but still finds a way to demonize it in the end. Researchers are unsure why the results are the way they are but don’t be fooled, “fat is toxic”. Why can’t they just report their findings without injecting their bias?
